Haushi jādugār = The gay magician, Dr. K. B. Lele ( Pune [(formerly Poona), India] : K. B. Lele, 1936?)

This Indian pamphlet in Marathi was published by the Indian Magician, a magazine in both English and Marathi on conjuring, on the occasion of its fifth birthday. Dr. Keshav Bhashav Lele, the author of this pamphlet, was an important figure in the development of modern magic in India. As well as writing books on magic, he founded and edited The Indian Magician and was involved in establishing the Society of Indian Magicians in 1932. He was particularly passionate about training young magicians and founded a magic school in Pune.

The charming cover image of this work combines both Indian and Western images of magic, from the young performers costume to the white rabbit under the table laden with the equipment for the performance, including a magic wand and a cup for ball and egg tricks.
