The Neapolitan novels quadrilogy

Ferrante, E. The Neapolitan novels quadrilogy. Europa.

How and where did you access it?

The books were lent to me by my father.

How did it make you feel?

Elena Ferrante's examination of what it is to be and become a woman, and the complexities of friendships between women, sex and sexuality were profoundly moving. While the novels do not address queerness explicitly, the depth of inquiry into the experience of self and becoming resonated strongly with my own experiences of coming to understand my sexuality and the changes in my own life. They were an implicit exploration of the essential queerness and otherness of being a person.

Did you share it?

I evangelised about it and shared it with as many people who would read it.

Is there anything else you would like to tell us about it?

This was one of my first experiences of literature that I felt really reflected the inner life of women in a way that didn't trivialise its complexity and potential for darkness.
