Jughead, Vol. 2

Zdarsky, C. & Charm, D. (2017) Jughead, Vol. 2. Archie Comics.

How and where did you access it?

Heard about it from a friend, bought it in a bookshop.

How did it make you feel?

It made me feel seen. I had not fully realised, up until reading this book, how badly I wanted (or needed) to see a fictional character feel the same way I do.

Asexuality is almost never represented in fiction, with the only exceptions being characters who are either unfeeling robots or villains, so I suppose I simply got used to never seeing it represented in a positive light. I felt overjoyed reading this book, but a little bit sad at the same time, because it reminded me of just how different my feelings are compared to the rest of the population.

Did you share it?

I used some quotes from it to make my parents understand me a bit more. I most definitely bored all of my friends with incessant talk about it.

Is there anything else you would like to tell us about it?

Since Jughead is a comic-book series, I felt a bit unsure in choosing it. But it did have a strong impact on me. And maybe it just proves that things like comic-books, which are usually considered "low" literature, are better at understanding/representing queer people.
