Current print journals are located in the Periodicals Room, on the 4th floor.
Older issues should be requested through the Catalogue (in a small number of cases by completing a paper request form). Items requested through the Fetch Service are brought to the Service Desk for collection. Please note that all printed journals are for reference use only.
Finding a journal
Click the Catalogue link to access an electronic journal (red highlight). The Catalogue indicates which years we have. If the journal is available in print, ‘Request’ it via the Fetch Service (yellow highlight). Current issues are usually held in the 4th floor Periodicals Room – the catalogue shows which shelf bay (green highlight). All printed journals are for reference use only within the library.
Discover, using Encore
Encore searches the books and journal titles in the library, together with the contents of a range of the electronic resources, including scholarly articles and local digital collections.
It offers options to Refine your search down the left of the results page. The electronic resources searched are in the EBSCO EDS category and may be restricted by Format. ‘Academic journals’ here means articles within academic journals.
Full Text may be indicated by the PDF sign: click on PDF or on the title. Alternatively there may be a Full Text Finder option which offers to locate the full text through other library resources. (Red highlight). The actual resources being searched are shown under the ‘Content provider’ heading (Green highlight).
Note that not all our electronic resources are included in the EBSCO EDS. You might like to check the Library’s database list for ProQuest resources for example.
