How and where did you access it?
A gift from an aunt when I was about 11. It was a relatively short book and I was a very quick reader, however as the story of the book played out over a year, I tried to take a year to read it, matching the time of year in my life to the time of year in the book so I could be with the girls in the book. I read it several times this slow way, whilst simultaneously reading the whole book several times quickly throughout the year.
How did it make you feel?
Horse riding, my hobby at the time, was female dominated in my area, which I liked. The friendships between the girls in the book were my favourite part and though this was not an overtly queer book, one of the girls was pretty butch, with cropped blonde hair.
Did you share it?
No! Too embarrassing to like generic horse books for girls.
Is there anything else you would like to tell us about it?
I cannot remember the name of this book precisely because it was so generic - one of many books about girls and horses for girls who rode horses - but that's kind of the point. 20 years later my fiancée and I were watching the queer film 'Of Girls And Horses' and I remembered this book.
